Access is through the front door on the deck at the driveway loop. You’ll find the lockbox mounted on the red post beside the entrance. Enter the code sent to you before check-in, open the box and return the key to it whenever you leave the property.

Warm in every season.
Mountain View Retreat is equipped with two (2) commercial-sized air conditioning/heat pumps—one in each lounge—ensuring the home stays warm and welcoming in every season.
Not available for use.
At the owners’ request, and in the interest of safety and care for all our guests, the fireplaces are not available for use. There is no firewood supplied or stored at the property. We appreciate your understanding, and we’re confident the heat pumps will keep the whole house cosy and comfortable.
A pet-free home.
For the comfort of future guests, and because of the rural surroundings and property setup, pets cannot stay at or visit Mountain View Retreat. Thank you for understanding.
Appliance guide.
CooktopKitchen
Use the corresponding control for the cooking zone you need and turn it fully off when finished. Please keep electric kettles, Moka pots, percolators and other unsuitable appliances off the cooktop.
OvenFisher & Paykel
Select your cooking function and temperature using the oven controls. Please switch the oven off when finished and wipe up spills once it has cooled.
MicrowaveBreville
Use microwave-safe dishes only. Choose the time and power required, then press start. Please cover food where practical and wipe the interior after any spills.
RefrigeratorPanasonic
The refrigerator is ready to use when you arrive. Please leave its temperature settings as they are and remove your food before check-out.
Coffee machineNespresso
Fill the water tank, lift the lever, insert a capsule and close firmly. Place your cup beneath the spout and select your preferred coffee size. Empty used capsules after use.
Washing machineSamsung
Add your clothing and a small amount of laundry detergent, choose the appropriate cycle and press start. Please do not wash the hired bed linen or supplied towels.
DryerSamsung
Check the garment labels first, clean the lint filter if needed, choose a suitable drying cycle and press start. Please leave the door slightly open after use.
TV & mediaSky basic package & personal streaming
The television is ready to enjoy and includes the Sky basic package using the Sky remote. You may sign into your own streaming accounts, but please log out before leaving.
Please leave the television settings as they are. If apps are added or the TV is reset and a technician is required, the $200 call-out cost may be charged to the guest.
Before you set off
Open the route while you still have a strong connection. If possible, arrive in daylight on your first visit so the rural turn-offs are easier to recognise.

Off-street parking is available in the driveway. Access is through the front door on the deck beside the driveway loop. Your access code is emailed the morning before arrival.
Check-in and check-out times
Check-in is anytime after 4:00 pm and check-out is before 10:00 am. If you would like an early check-in or late check-out, message us closer to your stay and we will do our best to accommodate it.
Food, milk & arriving later
We do not provide milk because everyone’s preference is different, so please pick up your favourite before arriving.
Restaurants in smaller West Coast towns often finish earlier, with the best dinner window generally between 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm. If you expect to arrive after 8:00 pm, consider dining first or collecting supplies from New World Hokitika, which is generally open until 9:00 pm.
Traffic and road conditions
West Coast weather and road conditions can change quickly. Check current conditions before setting out.
Leave Hokitika via Lake Kaniere Road.
From town, follow Lake Kaniere Road towards Blue Spur. You can also search for Surgenor’s Fine Jade Carving as your first landmark.
Turn left onto Hau Hau Road.
Watch for the left turn from Lake Kaniere Road. Continue along Hau Hau Road until you reach Surgenor’s Fine Jade Carving.
Take the unsealed road opposite Surgenor’s.
The entrance can be easy to miss. At Surgenor’s, look directly across the road for the unsealed turn-off and follow it into the property.
Continue past Excavator World.
Stay on the winding unsealed road as it passes Excavator World. Continue carefully and follow the road around towards Mountain View Retreat.
Look for the Mountain View Retreat sign.
The wooden sign marks your arrival. Follow the driveway loop to the house and park off-street in the driveway.
Use the driveway.
Off-street parking is available in the driveway. Please keep the loop and access clear for other vehicles.
Enter from the deck.
The front door is on the deck beside the driveway loop. Your access code is sent separately before arrival.

Traffic and changing road conditions
West Coast weather and road conditions can change quickly. Check the live NZTA journey information before setting out, allow extra time and drive to the conditions.

Friends and family visiting
You are very welcome to spend time with local friends and family during your stay. Please let the Host’d team know in advance. Only registered guests are covered by booking-platform protection, so the reservation holder remains responsible for the home and everyone visiting it.
Rubbish, glass and recycling
General waste goes into the red bin. Collection is fortnightly, so please avoid filling the property bins with travel, car or event waste. Nappies and excess rubbish should be taken to public disposal bins or the recycling centre.
There is no kerbside recycling collection at the property. Separated recycling and glass can be taken to the Hau Hau Road Recycling Centre.
Barbecue hire
A barbecue is not kept permanently at the property, but a ready-to-use barbecue package may be available to hire.
Electric vehicles
You are welcome to use an ordinary household outlet with your own charging cable. A longer lead may help, as plug access is generally inside. A public charging station is also available at New World Hokitika.
Fresh linen and towels
Fresh hired linen and plush towels are included and prepared before arrival. Please do not wash them during your stay or before departure. Leave used towels together in the bathroom.
Lost property
Message us through your booking platform if you think you have left something behind. A photograph or clear description helps our team locate it. If found, the item can be returned using a prepaid, self-addressed envelope plus the applicable handling fee.
Before you leave.
Check-out is by 10:00 am. A few small things make a big difference to the housekeeping team preparing the home for its next guests.
- Wash and put away dishes, or run the dishwasher early enough for the cycle to finish.
- Hand wash frying pans and non-stick cookware.
- Leave used towels in the bathroom. Please do not wash the hired linen.
- Turn off lights and close windows and doors.
- Sign out of personal streaming accounts.
- Return the key to the lockbox and scramble the numbers.
- Dispose of rubbish according to the property guidance.
- Take a final look for chargers and special belongings.
